Here's how we're making a difference in our local community
At Crown Gas & Power, we are not only devoted to providing all our customers with fair, cost-effective and competitive prices. We also dedicate ourselves to supporting our local community throughout Greater Manchester.
Choosing two charities to support wasn’t something we took lightly. A survey was conducted over one week at the beginning of 2025 asking all employees of Crown Gas & Power to look over our six options, which focused on four themes that are important to us all: children, end of life care, local to us and mental health.
We understood that some charities would hit home more than others to individual people so opened it up to a voting system – but this did not mean that any of the options were less important if not chosen. Andy’s Man Club and Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary were our two chosen charities and we are proud to be supporting both of them.
Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary, located in Edenfield, cares for a diverse range of animals, from pets to farm animals, believing every animal deserves a second chance. They strive to create a home-like environment while working to find each animal a safe and loving forever home.
Beyond rehoming, Bleakholt also provides sanctuary and support for those that are elderly, ill, or behaviourally challenged. Established in 1957, after saving a donkey from slaughter, and officially registered as a charity in 1968, Bleakholt has since expanded to a 55-acre refuge, caring for up to 350 animals at any one time.
The charity is entirely funded by public donations. With ongoing growth, their annual fundraising requirement is approximately £1,600,000. Without support from the local authority, they rely solely on the goodwill of the public, making every contribution vital.
#ANDYSMANCLUB is a charity who offer mental health support groups nationwide. Here, men can talk openly about what’s affecting their lives in a judgement free and non clinical environment. Thousands of men attend these groups each week and the charity continues to grow.
Andys Man Club has multiple groups throughout the Greater Manchester area alone, with meetings taking place every Monday night. The aim of the club is to provide men with a safe space where they can feel comfortable to talk and share their experiences without the fear of judgement.
The charity solely runs on donations from the public, and with the ever-growing number of members and clubs throughout the UK, fundraising becomes increasingly important to ensure this vital support remains available.
We are taking great care to ensure that we make a positive impact upon the two charities we have partnered with. Every year we host and arrange various different fundraising events to support our charities the best way we can, together with our colleagues.
Kicking off our partnerships in August 2021, Crown Gas & Power made an initial donation of £684.50, evenly shared between Rochdale and District Mind and Bury Hospice.
Since 2022, we’ve raised over £11,000 for charity!
To kick-start our fundraising for our newly chosen 2025 charities, we hosted another exciting charity pool tournament for our colleagues. Participants donated £5 to enter and were randomly paired into doubles for a fun yet competitive event. After a hard-fought tournament, congratulations go to Marek Heath and Peter Powell, who emerged as worthy winners, each receiving a £30 Prezzee Gift Voucher. A huge thank you to everyone who took part and supported our fundraising efforts.
Embracing the festive cheer at Crown Gas & Power, our colleagues donned their best Christmas jumpers to raise funds for charity. Each participant contributed a £1 donation, with an impressive 57 staff members joining in.
For Halloween 2024, our team hosted a Halloween Bakeoff to raise funds for our charities. The event was a huge hit, with many of our colleagues taking part, especially when it came to the tasting! This was a brilliant fundraising effort, with employees crafting their scariest sweet and savoury baked goods. Our judges had the tough task of selecting winners for ‘Most frighteningly delicious’ and ‘Boo-tiful presentation’. After much debate, the winners were chosen as Andy Walsh for the best presentation and Georgina Walsh for most delicious. Following the competition, colleagues were able to buy from the selection through a donation to our respective charities.
In September 2024, our Business Development Manager, Marek Heath, completed the Abersoch Half Marathon. Completing the marathon in a personal best of 1 hour and 50 minutes, Marek raised £345 in the process. In total, Marek ran 2 half marathons and 8 other 10km+ events in support of Andys Man Club, a charity dedicated to improving mental health in men through self-help peer to peer support. A huge well done to Marek for his incredible effort!
In August, we hosted a Rainbow Bake-off extravaganza to kick off the celebrations in honour of Manchester Pride. Our colleagues enjoyed a variety of vibrant delicious treats for just £1, with all proceeds going to to the LGBT Foundation, a charity dedicated to supporting and empowering the LGBTQ+ community. Our judges chose the winners on the most colourful, wild and magical baked creations, with the top baker winning a ‘Star Baker’ apron. After much deliberation, the judges announced the winner as Marketing Executive, Beth Helire-Glynn!
Throughout August, 40 employees at Crown Gas & Power competed in our charity pool tournament that raised £225 for our two chosen charities, Bury Hospice and Rochdale and District Mind. More than just a fundraising event, this tournament was our first initiative for the charities, helping to raise awareness throughout the business and bring colleagues together from all departments.
On Saturday 10th October, three of our team members volunteered their time to support Rochdale and District Mind’s World Mental Health Day event. We’d like to say a massive thank you to Caroline Jones, Kersha Barber and Megan Carden for turning up and making a difference for one of our chosen charities of the year. Our commitment goes above and beyond raising money for our charities and we are grateful that the team are as passionate as we are when it comes to supporting our charities.
The bake off was judged by Jeanette McLaren, Anthony Harris, and honorary judge Kym Carden who voted for the tastiest and most creative bakes. See our article for more images and details on the winners. The event raised £75 for our charities and we couldn’t have done it without the fantastic effort from everyone who participated.
On Friday 12th December, our team wore Christmas Jumpers in support of Rochdale and District Mind and Bury Hospice. As I’m sure you’ll agree the team looked great and pulled off the tacky jumpers with both class and elegance! This fun event raised £36 for our charities. A big thank you to everyone who participated and made this a success.
From Friday 8th October right up until Christmas Eve, some of our team took part in Crown Gas & Power’s 12 weeks of happy hour as part of our festive countdown to Christmas. Each week, colleagues would donate £1 to get involved in the BYOB event, and we are proud to say that the team raised £202 that we have split equally between our two charities!
On Saturday 2nd April 2022, 27 of our wonderful team members hiked the Yorkshire Three Peaks for Rochdale and District Mind and Bury Hospice. The team included 22 of our amazing employees, three friends and Rebecca Steele (CEO) and Julie Smith (Finance and Business Development Manager) from Rochdale and District Mind. We are proud to announce that we raised an incredible total of £5,257!
On October 22nd, five incredible members of our team skydived from 15,000 feet for our two company charities. The team was able to raise an incredible £2,783, with the total being split equally between the two company charities. To read our blog about the skydive and see our gallery, click here

A total of £172 was raised, which was doubled by Crown Gas & Power, meaning the grand total was £344.
