Energy Theft

We all pay for it, so let's put a stop to it

What is energy theft?

This involves either tampering with your electricity or gas meter or deliberately bypassing the meter altogether. Either way, the illegal abstraction of electricity/gas or the deliberate interference (or tampering) with a meter to prevent it from accurately recording consumption are criminal offenses under the Theft Act 1968 and the Gas Act 1986 respectively.

The risks

Tampering with your meter brings obvious health and safety risks to you, your household, your business and the wider neighbourhood. Electrocution, fire, explosion, and poisoning are some of the obvious risks associated with illegal activity, not to mention either the serious injury or potential fatalities which could occur should the risk materialise.

What can you do

If you suspect illegal activity, then report it immediately to us: 0161 762 7744, E-chat, or hello@crowngas.co.uk
